Superglue vapour, ethyl cyanoacrylate, polymerises on some latent fingerprints to produce a white deposit. This polymerisation is thought to be catalysed by water and possibly some other constituents of latent fingerprints. The effectiveness of the process is very dependent on the processing conditions.
These small foil dishes are ideally suited for heating up the superglue thereby allowing the vapour to permeate the exhibits.
