Modified Dille-Koppanyi Reagent - For the presumptive identification of Barbiturates. Used after a 'no change' result in Test A and Test G, and an orange result in Test I.
Positive Result: No colour change after breaking the first ampoule and a lavender colour after breaking the second ampoule.
Simple to use, NIK Pouches contain one to three chemical ampoules in a
heavy-duty plastic pouch. This eliminates the need for measuring, mixing and
dispensing of reagents. Just place a small sample of the suspect drug in the
pouch, break the ampoules and watch for a colour change. A positive colour
indicator on the pouch will help interpret the reaction. To see the colour properly,
hold the pouch steady in front of the white background. Remember for any test
there are four important factors to look for namely 1) Colour, 2) location of colours
in the test pack, 3) Change or absence of colour 4) Intensity of the colour.
Reagent shelf life is indefinite, but prolonged exposure to strong sunlight or heat
should be avoided. Ampoules should be broken through the protective plastic
casing in the centre of each vial. DO NOT continue to crush the glass after
breaking the vials, as it may puncture the pouch. To mix the reagents simply 'flick'
the pouch with your finger, or agitate it gently from side to side.
Each pack contains 10 individual tests.
